Jose Monte Wins WSOP Circuit Choctaw Main Event

New York based poker player Jose Monte did the business at the WSOP Circuit Choctaw Main Event, beating a large field of 1,363 players to take home a very nice first place prize of $352,669, a seat in the National Championships and his first ever Circuit Gold Ring. This may be Montes first ring but it's not his first WSOP Circuit paycheck, in fact it's his fourth and he's no stranger to land based tourneys on the East coast, although he admits that entry to this one was decided upon a little late. After flying to Oklahoma from Atlantic City and having just a few hours rest he bought straight into Day 1, a decision which turned out to be a very good one.

The huge Choctaw playing field made the going tough for the 29 year old player, and that field was sprinkled with Circuit ring winners such as Ben Reason, Ryan Tepen and Ben Keeline, in fact it was Keeline who Monte beat heads up to take the event. The win couldn't have come at a better time for Monte as with an 11 month old son and another one on the way he's been busy off the table looking at homes for his young family and part of this prize money will be going toward that.

Monte showed his professionalism as he hit the final table as the chip leader and he never looked back. His aggressive style of play saw him through a few tough spots and he guarded his stack well throughout the proceedings, and after beating Benjamin Keeline to seal the victory he stated that, "Tournament poker is so tough. You get so close and it hurts when you lose. Still winning money and it still hurts. You want to win. I am a competitor, competitors want to win every time." The WSOP Circuit will now move on to Tunica as we edge ever closer to the National Championships.
