Ryan Jones Wins Harrah's Cherokee WSOP Circuit Main Event

Ryan Jones the North Carolina native took down the Harrah's Cherokee WSOP Circuit Main Event and with it took home the coveted gold ring and a superb first placed prize of $235,804. That huge win doubled the 24 year olds career earnings and gave him his very first WSOP Circuit title along with a seat in the National Championships in July which are being held in Cherokee, and all of that combined makes him a very happy poker player indeed.

After the triumph Jones stated that, "Winning at home was pretty special for sure, It feels pretty good, I've had a couple of deep runs and couldn't close the deal, so it felt good to finally get it done. I'd like to thank my mom and my grandma for taking care of me all of my life, and now I get to pay it back." Nice words!

A field of 786 players took to the felt at Cherokee and even though there was in fact a guaranteed prize pool of $750,000, that was easily beaten by the $1.179,000 that was generated by the large field. It was no walk in the park for Jones as many talented players were in that field with David Bach who has 3 WSOP bracelets to his name in the mix, along with gold ring winner Steve Karp, bracelet winner Michael Gracz and also the North Carolina legendary basketball player Tommy Burleson who actually finished in a very commendable 23rd place.

Cutting straight to the action, Jones began making big moves on day 3 by knocking out Eric Gorman in 11th place then added to his stack by ending the run of Martin Roberts in 7th position. Jones then sat back a little and allowed David Williams to run riot, taking out many contenders and then it was down to heads up play that ended in a final hand that saw both players raising heavy. With Jones holding a K,Q and Williams a K,8 the flop of Q,8,3 gave both players the pair. It was however a K that came on the turn and after all chips were thrown into the middle it was Jones who came out with the victory.
