Guillermo Olvero Wins Punta Cana Poker Classic

punta cana poker classic winner The Punta Cana Poker Classic has its first Latin American winner and that's Guillermo Olvero from Mexico. It's the fourth year of the event held in the Dominican Republic and the $1,500 buy in event created a great total prize pool of $712,312 meaning that Olvero took home a very nice $171,000 for his troubles. The No Limit Hold'em event saw a field of 490 entries and took place at the wonderful Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana, and was a $500,000 guaranteed event, however that figure was well beaten with an outstanding number of players taking part. The final table saw Olvero and Leo Otazo from Chile go head to head however there was a strong field that had to be beaten before that stage was reached. Jonathan Roy was eliminated in 25th place, Anthony Zinno came in at 4th and World Poker Tour champion Carter Phillips finished in 35th place. Heads up play didn't last too long and it was Olvero who came out victorious taking a handsome paycheck home with him.

Americas Cardroom had sent many players to the tournament and had pushed it strong all year offering many chances to qualify for the event in the Caribbean, and they are sure to be doing the same thing for next years event. Qualifiers and satellites to seat giveaway tournaments proved extremely popular at the US friendly online poker room and we're pretty sure it won't be too long until they start promoting the fifth annual Punta Cana Poker Classic.
