PokerStars Rolls Out New Security Measures

PokerStarsThis week PokerStars announced all new security measures for its customers. In an attempt to reduce hacking and account fraud Stars have introduced SMS Validation which is free to all players and will be available on the next software upgrade. It will be rolled out country by country but soon enough, available for all.

Once a player has decided to activate the messaging system, they are sent an SMS text message as soon as any irregularity is seen on their player account. These irregularities are detected by Stars systems and as soon as something out of turn happens in your account then that account has blocks put on real money transactions, such as depositing, withdrawing, playing cash games or tournaments and transferring money. The block stays in place until a code that is sent by the system to the customer is entered in the PokerStars client. To use this feature players must of course have a valid mobile phone number registered with Stars, and then to head to the SMS Security Options withing the client and set the activation. Head of Public Relations at PokerStars, Michael Josem stated that, "PokerStars is once again delivering on the importance of security for our customers. We were the first online poker operator to provide RSA Security Tokens and now the first online poker operator to offer this SMS security mechanism. The service is free to all players and adds an additional security mechanism to help PokerStars player accounts remain safe and secure against online threats." At present Stars has a huge 50 million registrations, and this added bit of security will go down well with most, it's quite possible a large amount of bigger players will jump at the chance of added safety.
