Daniel Negreanu was born on July 26, 1974, and is of Romanian descent but was born in Ontario, Canada. He attended school in North York and was said to have bad behavior and did not follow the rules. Negreanu learned to play poker at the age of 15, and by 16 he was already out hustling and playing cards. He had several setbacks while trying to build up enough money to move to Las Vegas, however in the end he is still proving that he has made it far in the poker world. Ever since Daniel Negreanu was little he said he was going to be a rich and successful person; that fact has not changed. He grew up in Canada, and from there he built up enough money to go play poker in Las Vegas; however the first time around it did not go so well, he ended up bankrupting and heading back. His persistence shown through and he made it back to Las Vegas where he has been living it up. His popularity started to sky rocket after his 1997 debut by winning three tournaments, two of which were at the World Poker Finals. In 1998 he won his first World Series of Poker bracelet by placing first in Pot Limit Hold’em and earning $169,460. He continued his winning streak at the WSOP by winning another three bracelets; in 2003, 2004, and 2008. His total winnings for those three tournaments were over $470,000 combined.
He also joined other big time tournaments like the World Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour. At the WPT he won a total of 2 titles, both were achieved in 2004. This is where a big chunk of his total earnings came from; he got almost $3 million from both tournaments. As the Euro Poker Tour is still relatively new, this is why just like him, many other big name poker players have not had the chance to make their name in that tournament. While participating in the World Series of Poker, Negreanu won a total of 4 bracelets. He also played at the final table 26 times and had 51 money finishes. He is 11th on the highest ITM for this tournament. Changing venues, as he played at the World Poker Tour, he got 2 titles, played at 8 final tables, and had 18 money finishes. His time playing at the European Poker Tour has been short, and while participating he got to the final table once, and had 2 money finishes. This is the reason his overall live tournaments winnings are at $14,100,000. He has been playing on the online poker site Poker Stars, where he has made a name for himself there as well.
Daniel Negreanu is also known for his generous attitude. He makes appearances in several charity events, as well as being the founder of the annual “Big Swing” charity golf event.
