The 22 year old Canadian player Ami Barer took first place and a paycheck for $1.6 Million when he took down the Aussie Millions Main Event 2014, beating a field of 668 players. The final table lasted 12 hours and Barer saw off plenty of stiff competition in the shape of Scott Seiver, Jake Balsiger and Sorel Mizzi to come out on top. Although taking his seat with the other 6 final table makers as chip leader it was far from a stroll in the park for the young pro, and although he plays the majority of his poker online, he can now add a major live event win to his name.
The start of the final table play saw each player doing whatever they could to stay in the game, making it very hard going, however that changed when Scott Seiver went to the rails in 7th place. Next taking an early trip home was Andrew Phaedonos, however as a local, he didn’t have far to go. Fifth place went to Vincent Rubianes who was unfortunate to come up against the pocket aces of Rabinowitz who was himself the third player to be eliminated. We were then into 3 way play with Barer, Balsiger and Mizzi and it was Balsiger who was knocked out in third place in a monster hand that could have gone either way, and after raise after re-raise it was eventually Barer who won it. Heads up play was all about Barer and he slowly but surely hacked away at the stack of Mizzi and it all came to a close went Mizzi pushed all in with a Q.8 suited, however that was little match for the pocket aces of Barer, and it was he who took home the title of Aussie Millions 2014 Main Event Champion.
