Betfair Pulls Out of New Jersey Online Poker

Betfair Casino
UK betting exchange company Betfair has pulled out of the New Jersey online poker after never really taking off in the Garden State. The site had stagnated for sometime with player numbers hardly moving and monthly revenue at a standstill making them the second site to fold their hand in the NJ market, with Ultimate Gaming having shut up shop in October. The Betfair casino will however remain in place, in fact it generated $856,000 in revenue during October. Betfair had initially teamed up with the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, however after they were forced to close their doors Betfair switched their license over to the Golden Nugget.

The numbers regarding Betfair New Jersey poker are pretty astounding, earning just $1.00 in September, and throughout the initial 10 months of 2014 showing a mere $50 in rake, with $90 created during November and December period of 2013. The site never got going, and was never seen as a serious contender in the market, and it comes as no surprise to see it leave, while the casino on the other hand reported over $6.6 Million in revenue for the first 10 months of 2014. This leaves WSOP.com, 888Poker and the partnership of the Borgata and Party Poker remaining in New Jersey and the bad news for them is that although the competition is being reduced by one, there are no Betfair players that will be looking for a new home.

In other New Jersey poker news, the arrival of the world’s biggest poker site, that of PokerStars is still be talked up, but as yet there is still no news of a launch date. It’s hoped that this will inject a badly needed lease of life into the market with fresh marketing money and a big brand name dragging more people to the tables. The fact still remains however that getting money on to those tables is still proving problematic as banks are still not clearing credit card transactions.

Players from around the US can of course get their game on at a number of offshore sites with Bovada Poker being the biggest of them. The $100K Sunday Tournament is the biggest tourney they offer and there are heaps of packed cash games right around the clock with tables full at all stakes levels. New players will get a sweet 100% bonus up to $1,000 to get them going and 6 entries into New Player Qualifiers to that big $100,000 tourney.
