PokerStars Room Opens in Casino Gran Madrid

PokerStars 'Live' In Madrid

Back in December we bought you news that the worlds largest online poker site PokerStars was going bricks and mortar in Madrid. Well, the deal was done with the Gran Casino Madrid and a pretty low key launch was made last week. It was a very Spanish affair in Madrid with famous football players, poker players and even a few bull fighters among the 100 or so guests. It was an important event for Stars as not only was it the launch of their very first offline poker room, but they also launched their new brand, PokerStars 'Live'. It's not by any means Stars first offline adventure, but is their first very own room, as they have dabbled with casinos in Macau and hold a small share in Belgian casino for legal reasons. It's a big step and soon to be followed by a similar room at London's Hippodrome casino and hopefully one step further with the purchase of the Atlantic City casino. Stars satellites can run along side each other both online and offline and all tournaments will be cross promoted. The whole room in Madrid has been revamped and built around the new Live brand and with over 200 seats it's a fair size with the intention of running cash games and tourneys at all hours of the day. There is little promotion behind the room at present with nothing on the stars Spanish client and a few words on the PokerStars Madrid site mentioning that Thursday nights are sit and go nights. If it was a quite launch they were after then they have succeeded but we know the drill and when they are good and ready they will be letting the world know, in PokerStars fashion.
