Jake Bazeley Wins WSOP Harrah's Cherokee Main Event

Jake Bazeley the 31 year old poker pro from Cincinnati broke his WSOP duck and claimed his first victory at Harrah’s Cherokee taking home the WSOP Circuit gold ring and a first place payout of $239,096. This may have been Bazeley’s first WSOP win but he’s no stranger to tournament cashes and this win pushed his lifetime tournament earnings close to the $2 Million mark. As well as the bling and the cash, he will also be taking his seat in the WSOP National Championships too.

The Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event was a busy one, attracting 797 players who generated a large $1,195,500 prize pool and there were some well known faces at the tables, including the 2004 WSOP Main Event winner Greg Raymer, and one of the best defensive linesmen in the NFL and 3 time Super Bowl winner, Richard Seymour. The Main Event lasted 3 days and the final day started with just 12 players, with Bazeley in 2nd place, and it was only an hour or so until the final 9 made up the final table. Bazeley was the first to admit that when he needed good cards he got them, with a pair of aces taking a huge pot that gave him close to half the chips in play and then during 3 handed play a pair of kings gave him a 3 to 1 chip lead going into heads up play. He wrapped things up pretty quickly after that and after the win stated that, “I just had some hands in fortunate spots where people just weren't folding to me, I got very lucky to wake up with some hands in the right situations.”
