George Danzer is WSOP Player of the Year

George Danzer the German Team PokerStars Pro topped off an outstanding 2014 by winning the 2014 WSOP Player of the year title. During the WSOP 2014 he hit cash seats in no less than 10 events and made 5 final tables, earning himself a cool $867,649 with 3 bracelets on top, becoming only the 6th player in WSOP history to manage that feat. Danzer had to wait a while to claim the title and he did so on day 15 of the WSOP Asia Pacific series in Australia where he eventually shook off the challenge from his nearest rival Brandon Shack Harris.

By taking the title he wins free entry into the 2015 WSOP Main Event however even though he had a record breaking year it was far from an easy ride claiming the POY title and Shack Harris took him all of the way. It was intense stuff and the battle went all the way to the Asia Pacific series and although Danzer took his 3rd bracelet during the APAC series Shack Harris came back scoring points aplenty as he made a superb deep run in the Main Event in Australia. While Shack Harris was making that run, Danzer was attempting to accumulate points in the high roller event, leaving his adversary needing to finish in a top two spot in the Main Event. It wasn't to be however and Shack Harris busted out in 17th place leaving Danzer to take the title and be crowned as 2014 WSOP Player of the Year. It was an amazing year for the German pro and his picture will now adorn the walls of the main tournament hall at the Rio each summer.
